The Atlanta Jazz Orchestra is the Southeast's premiere jazz orchestra. It was conceived in 1995 by Craig Stephens and Eddie Clark to create professional opportunities for jazz musicians. Many of it's performers are graduates of prestigious music schools, including the University of North Texas Lab Band program and Eastman School of Music. Its mission, to preserve and promote the nation's indigenous art form, jazz.
The Atlanta Jazz Orchestra's performances highlight the masters of the music's history such as Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman. New works are commissioned and classic jazz manuscripts from great American artists are reconstructed from works that were either lost or never formally transcribed.
The Atlanta Jazz Orchestra is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting America's most original art form: Jazz. But it is also much more. Proceeds from each concert will help support the AJO' s educational and charitable programs. At home in Atlanta, the Atlanta Jazz Orchestra is dedicated to jazz education. Performances are available to special organizations serving the needy and disabled, and to schools throughout the state.
